Founders Doug & Suzanne Corkum started their dream in the 1980's . Together, along with the help of their family. They hand planted each vine and cultivated their vision from the ground up. In June of 1990 they opened the doors to Sainte Famille Wines. Suzanne became the first female winemaker in Nova Scotia and helped pave the way for what is now a booming wine industry. It has always been our mission to craft exceptional wines and to create a welcoming environment for anyone who visits the winery.

The first vines in Nova Scotia were planted along the shores of Bear River in 1611 by French settlers. They recognized the warm and sheltered microclimate unique to Bear River was ideal for grapes. Almost four centuries later the original founder of our vineyard recognized that was still the case and planted vinifera not previously grown in Nova Scotia such as Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Gamay. Today our small vineyard is a mix of these tender varietals growing alongside other vinifera and hardier hybrids. We invite you to join us at Bear River Vineyards to experience the history that has shaped our beautiful property. The winery is housed in a masterfully renovated bank barn that was built in 1883. The unique four-and-a-half-story design of the barn allows for a primarily gravity-fed winemaking process. The main level of the winery houses the tasting bar and wine shop. From its soaring beamed ceiling to the herringbone slate floor, it is the perfect place to enjoy our 100% estate-grown and -bottled wines while surrounded by understated elegance. Visitors are welcome to enjoy our outdoor seating area with a view of our vineyards. Planted on the steeply sloped valley walls above Bear River, a tidal estuary that flows into the Annapolis Basin, they overlook the stunning vistas of the valley in a sun-drenched amphitheatre.

The Jost family planted our first vines in 1978 on the Malagash Peninsula, jutting into the warm Northumberland Strait. Warmed by the slope of the land, and sharing the same latitude as the renowned grape-growing regions of France, Germany and Italy, the vineyard flourished and the winery was officially licensed in 1983. The winery store was opened in 1986 and quickly became a hub for community events and activities.Carl and Donna Sparkes founded Devonian Coast Wineries in 2011, then purchased the already established and respected Jost Vineyards. Bringing with them a commitment to more education, scientific analysis of soil types, and new plantings, it is a new beginning for the winery. With this came a massive redesign and renovation of the winery and its facilities as well as changes in winemaking and viticulture.Carl and Donna’s passion for wine and love of Atlantic Canada are the heart of Jost Vineyards’ commitment to excellence and innovation. We are focused on elevating Nova Scotia’s expanding and maturing wine industry to be among the world’s best through innovative use of local resources, pride in rural enterprise, continued investment in the future of the wine industry and, always, a commitment to creating wonderful wines.

Lightfoot & Wolfville is a Demeter-certified biodynamic farm-winery located in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia on Canada’s Atlantic coast, nestled between the town of Wolfville and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Grand Pré. The name of the winery - “Lightfoot & Wolfville” - represents the connection of people and place (Lightfoot is our surname and Wolfville being the name of the town), a relationship that is at the heart of everything we do. While our journey in wine growing first began in 2009 with the initial planting of grapevines, our family’s farming roots go back eight generations in the Annapolis Valley - four generations on our current home farm land where the winery sits today. Our focus is on cool-climate wines that speak of their origin, including traditional method sparkling wines, aromatic whites, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Situated in close proximity to the Minas Basin and the world’s highest tides, cool breezes and excellent temperature moderation help create wines with great distinction. In addition to nurturing nearly 40 acres of grapevines for wine production, we operate as a working biodynamic farm that also grows ingredients for the winery’s farm-to-table restaurant, including heirloom vegetables, herbs, grass-fed Highland beef, Southdown lamb and Mangalitsa pork. Aiming to achieve self-sufficiency as much as possible, forage for the livestock is also grown on-site and waste materials such as grape pomace and livestock manure are composted and fed back to the soil. Our winery hospitality facility, opened in 2017, features a wine shop, tasting room and full-service event venue where we serve our wines alongside local in-season ingredients, connecting guests with the unique terroir of Nova Scotia.

Co-owners Melanie and Jake Eelman both grew-up on small family farms in northern Nova Scotia. Upon completing their education in the fields of chemistry and public administration, work took them to central Canada for nearly a decade. With the addition of two young boys, Samuel and Oliver, the Eelman family had a goal to return to their Nova Scotia roots. Upon returning to the province, Melanie became an award-winning cider-maker and Jake focused his efforts in supporting Canadian agriculture. Their dreams came full-circle with the purchase of 21 acres of beautiful farm land in the Annapolis Valley in 2017. Inspired by the beautiful wide-open sky above and the long history of the land, they called the property Beausoleil, which means “beautiful sun” in French.Building on the rich farming history around them in pomiculture and viticulture and the pioneers in wine and cider-making in Nova Scotia, Melanie and Jake are excited to be working closely together as a family. Their goal is to establish Beausoleil Farmstead as a boutique cidery and winery that is anchored in their philosophy of combining sustainable farming with cellar experimentation.
