Planters Ridge is an artisanal winery located in Port Williams, Nova Scotia. The vineyard is planted on the sandy-clay slopes of a ridge overlooking the Wellington Dyke. The rich pastoral setting that embodies our unique microclimate is bordered in the north by the basalt and granite of the North Mountain that rises from the shore of the Bay of Fundy. To the south, we are sheltered from the cooler air of the Atlantic Ocean by the South Mountain and Wolfville Ridge. Our terroir serves as the inspiration for the wines we produce. We believe in the concept of vineyard enology, which at its core, is the belief that wine is made in the vineyard. With this in mind, we strive to create the most unique and inspiring wines that this land will give us. Co-owners Melanie and Jake Eelman both grew-up on small family farms in northern Nova Scotia. Upon completing their education in the fields of chemistry and public administration, work took them to central Canada for nearly a decade. With the addition of two young boys, Samuel and Oliver, the Eelman family had a goal to return to their Nova Scotia roots. Upon returning to the province, Melanie became an award-winning cider-maker and Jake focused his efforts in supporting Canadian agriculture. Their dreams came full-circle with the purchase of 21 acres of beautiful farm land in the Annapolis Valley in 2017. Inspired by the beautiful wide-open sky above and the long history of the land, they called the property Beausoleil, which means “beautiful sun” in French.Building on the rich farming history around them in pomiculture and viticulture and the pioneers in wine and cider-making in Nova Scotia, Melanie and Jake are excited to be working closely together as a family. Their goal is to establish Beausoleil Farmstead as a boutique cidery and winery that is anchored in their philosophy of combining sustainable farming with cellar experimentation.

Lightfoot &amp; Wolfville is a Demeter-certified biodynamic farm-winery located in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia on Canada’s Atlantic coast, nestled between the town of Wolfville and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Grand Pré. The name of the winery - “Lightfoot &amp; Wolfville” - represents the connection of people and place (Lightfoot is our surname and Wolfville being the name of the town), a relationship that is at the heart of everything we do. While our journey in wine growing first began in 2009 with the initial planting of grapevines, our family’s farming roots go back eight generations in the Annapolis Valley - four generations on our current home farm land where the winery sits today. Our focus is on cool-climate wines that speak of their origin, including traditional method sparkling wines, aromatic whites, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Situated in close proximity to the Minas Basin and the world’s highest tides, cool breezes and excellent temperature moderation help create wines with great distinction. In addition to nurturing nearly 40 acres of grapevines for wine production, we operate as a working biodynamic farm that also grows ingredients for the winery’s farm-to-table restaurant, including heirloom vegetables, herbs, grass-fed Highland beef, Southdown lamb and Mangalitsa pork. Aiming to achieve self-sufficiency as much as possible, forage for the livestock is also grown on-site and waste materials such as grape pomace and livestock manure are composted and fed back to the soil. Our winery hospitality facility, opened in 2017, features a wine shop, tasting room and full-service event venue where we serve our wines alongside local in-season ingredients, connecting guests with the unique terroir of Nova Scotia.

This 14.8-acre vineyard has breathtaking views of the Wellington Dyke, North Mountain and Cape Blomidon, and the entire property is nestled in vines. There is a climate-controlled barrel cellar room where their red wines are aged for at least 3-5 years. It took passion and dedication to turn 1365 Church Street from a barley field to a beautiful mature vineyard, boasting unforgettable sunrises and sunsets, within just five short years.
